The process of connecting light bulbs to Google Home consists of first finding and then, adding your light bulbs in the Google Assistant app and assigning them to a room. Let’s see how do we do this:
- Open Google Assistant.
- Head to “Explore” > Select the Compass icon from the right corner
- Thereafter, tap on the customization icon(three dots).
- Head over to “Settings” > “Services” > Select “Home Control”.
- Tap on the (+) icon in the lower right corner.
- Now, get down and select your light.
- Suppose we have Philips Hue, then, we select Philips Hue.
- Thereafter, sign-in into your account and the bulbs you set up will appear among the devices under Home Control.
Set up Rooms
Once you have connected your bulbs to Google Home, group them by room to control them all at once. How to do it? Head ahead to see:
- Open Google Assistant.
- Select Rooms under Home.
- Now, a prompt will appear to assign lights to a room.
- Select the pencil icon next to the light, and proceed to select it’s room.

Connect Alexa to Smart Lights
To connect Alexa to smart lights:
- Open Alexa application.
- Now, turn on the light you want to connect.
- Head over to “Devices” > “All Devices”.
- Thereafter, go to “Lights”.
- Select your Light.

Contextual Lighting
Contextual lighting is a feature of Alexa. It uses simple commands to perform actions with lights. Say, “Turn off lights”. A point to remember, here is that it is not necessary to mention which light you need to switch off.
In order to set up contextual lighting, we only require an Amazon Echo device and smart bulbs. Thereafter, you have to create a Light Group to group all lights in an area to turn them off or on in one go.
