Today we will be talking about resolutions. What resolutions are? How are they calculated? Or more formally, how do we measure resolutions? What are pixels? In the process, we will also have a WQHD vs 4K Resolution comparison. We will also come across terms like High Definition, Standard Definition, Ultra High Definition, etc.

Introduction

The most important thing when talking about resolutions is; that more the pixels the screen displays, the higher its definition is. I mean to say there seems very critical mathematics behind resolutions. Actually, when discussing resolutions, say 1920 X 1080p, the resultant is a pixel count. Therefore, 1920 x 1080 = 2,073,600 pixels that refill any screen size. This math is vital to know if you wish to have a good grasp of screen resolutions.

Moving on, there are numerous smart devices in the market, coming with all sorts of display sizes, screen resolutions, and display initialisms attached to them. It’s tough to understand what all of them mean. We all have faced queries in knowing if FHD is better than WQHD? Is 4K an equivalent as UHD? qHD vs QHD? Thus, we will be discussing these questions below.

The Different Resolutions ?

When HDTV first came along, there were only a few broadcast resolutions and display resolutions used. One of which was the 1280p wide X 720p tall resolution. Here, “p” refers to progressive scan rather than “i” which refers to interlacing. It’s common in smaller size device displays but not that common in larger displays.

FHD

Full HD measures 1920 X 1080 which is known as 1080p resolution. This is common in various Smart TVs and other large-screen devices. It uses a 16:9 ratio that is 16pixels wide and 9 pixels vertical. A point to note here is that the screen size will not bring a change in the resolution count of the device. What changes is only the density? Thus, an FHD mobile has greater sharpness than an FHD TV screen, because of its smaller size.

QHD and/or WQHD

QHD is known as Quad High Definition and is also commonly known as WQHD or Wide Quad High Definition. It is 4times the ordinary HD displays of 720p. This also features an aspect ratio of 16:9pixels.

2K

We sometimes, notice that Quad-HD or WQHD (Wide Quad High Definition) is mentioned as 2K. This 2K name springs from the larger half the pixel measurements (2048), representing over 2,000 pixels. this suggests that any display with a resolution greater than 2,048 × 1,080 is generally described as 2K.

qHD

qHD should not be confused with QHD. Because, qHD refers to quarter High Definition, a resolution of 960 x 540pixels only which is, in reality, equivalent to a quarter of 1080p FHD.

4K and UHD

4K and Ultra High Definition (UHD) resolutions create confusion because both terms often get interchangeable although that’s not the reality. True 4K displays are generally utilized in professional production and digital cinemas and have 4096 x 2160 pixels.

While UHD is different because it’s a consumer display and broadcast standard with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels—that’s fourfold that of Full 1080p HD once you use multiplication (8,294,400 pixels versus 2,073,600).

WQHD vs 4K Resolution

To sum up the advantage of getting more pixels (hence, more resolution), it might be this; “More the pixel, sharper then images”. Thus, suggesting that with a crispier, better, and sharper image, 4K will always be better than QHD.

But there are some conditions. The resolution also depends on the screen size. Actually, these changes in resolutions are not discernible by normal eyes when looking at a smaller screen say your smartphone of 4inches. But, the difference becomes clearer when we see the big screen TV or even some smartphones.

Let’s see some points of note to better comprehend the difference between WQHD and 4K resolution :

  • 4K resolutions are comparatively sharper than WQHD resolutions because QHD resolutions are 2K resolutions.
  • 4K screens have more pixels than QHD screens, hence require more power consumption.
  • There may be a limited amount of 4K content on the web but it’s rising rapidly.

For Gaming

Resolutions play a big role when concerning gameplays. Thus, the difference between QHD and 4K is often notable in playing games. So, let’s see some common advantages and drawbacks of 4K and QHD in gaming:

  • QHD has (2560 x 1440)pixel while, 4K has (3840 x 2160)pixel resolution.
  • 4K is comparatively sharper than WQHD.
  • QHD requires low consumption of power, while, 4K consumes high power.
  • Graphics Easier to run smooth Runs well with high-end graphics cards
  • QHD is comparatively cheaper than 4K.

WRAPPING UP !!! — WQHD vs 4K Resolution

We can say that there is no hard and fast rule as to choose either a 4K or a QHD resolution device. Because apart from the varied differences in features, which are many, it all boils down to the money you have in your purse. We have seen while going through WQHD vs 4K resolution; that while a 4K resolution is sharper and crisper and brighter but is equally more expensive when compared with WQHD resolution devices. Also, if we are concerned with smaller screen devices then, the resolution doesn’t matter much because they are not that discernible in smaller devices. Yes, for bigger screen devices, though the resolutions do matter to a certain extent. Nevertheless, keep in mind the cost that comes with those.
