In telecommunications, the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) is the one that brings a private communications service into force. This is “a set of capabilities that permits some combination of private mobility, terminal mobility, and repair profile management”. Personal communications services use a special non-geographic code of the format 5XX for assigning telephone numbers. Thus, in that regards we will be discussing one such code that is the 588 Area Code.

Introduction

The designation of the 5XX code format was authorized by US Federal Communications Commission and introduced into the North American Numbering Plan in 1995.

In 1995, AT&T introduced a “follow-me” service under the name of AT&T True Connections using code 500. It had been designed to exchange the AT&T EasyReach 700 service. AT&T True Connections service wasn’t well accommodative. Various companies, hotels, et al. with PBX equipment continued to dam the dialing of 500 because it had been a caller-paid number. Phone-sex services also used the 500-prefix, forwarding the calls to varied foreign countries.

NPA 500 remains a source of the spread of telephone companies and is in use for non-geographic services, including dial-up modem access.

In 1996, AT&T attempted to migrate users to its revised service called “Personal Reach” 800, built on a toll-free (receiver-paid) platform instead of the first (caller-paid) 500 program. AT&T features a US patent (5,907,811) on “personal reach service”.

588 Area Code

Verizon has become the last word choice for people that need voice calls and text messages because they’re the cellular network carrier out there. Within the same vein, they need to design the special message app, referred to as Messages+. However, a number of Verizon users are receiving text messages from the 588 code but they don’t know what it means.

Receiving Message from 588 Area Code

This is usually happening with the Verizon users that are using the group messages on the Message+ app. Usually, this code is assigned to the users’ phone numbers that aren’t using the Message+ app. Sometimes, people also think that the text message is coming from Mexico given the 588 code. So, if someone isn’t using the Message+ app on the Verizon network and you add them to group texts, Verizon will assign this code to such users.

Contrarily, people also receive this message with an official Verizon link. With this being said, there are certain ways you can get out of this problem. Let’s discuss some of these :

Message Restore

In case you’re unable to use the group messages after receiving messages from the 588 code; the primary step should be restoring the message. How to do it? Let’s see it below :

  • Open your Message+App.
  • Go to the upper left corner > Tap on the stacked lines
  • It will open a menu.
  • Thereafter, select the “restore messages” option from the list
  • Once you restore the messages, you’ll be ready to send group messages.

Change your App

If you are trying in vain to gain access to group texts, we recommend using other message services instead of what you are using. Say, if you’re using the default messaging app of your phone, change to the Message+ app. And, if it is the other way round then shift to the default message app.

Check if the message is indeed originally from Verizon

Sometimes, people do think that these messages or codes are not coming from Verizon. With this being said, if you’re seeing text messages with 588 code; and don’t about its sources, then, instead of keeping it, you should delete it.

We also propose that you don’t text back or call back on such numbers because they could be a scam. And, it’s always better to remain on the safer side!

WRAPPING UP !!

With utmost happiness and satisfaction, I declare and wish that this post has enhanced your understanding and knowledge. That this post has indeed made you aware of the 588 Area Code. Also, that you don’t fall into the trap of various scams and frauds. Hoping that this article helps you settle your doubts, once and for all. Until next time !! See-ya 🙂
